An FIR has been registered against two men for allegedly entering the restricted labour room and maternity ward of a women’s hospital in Jaunpur and misbehaving with female staff members, police said.
The action comes after an inquiry was conducted into a video in which a woman was purportedly heard claiming that her delivery was denied on religious grounds at the hospital. The inquiry later found that the allegation was false.
The case was filed against Mohammd Usman and Mayank Srivastava at the Kotwali police station under sections 115 (voluntarily causing hurt), 352 (intentional insult to provoke breach of peace), 77 (voyeurism) and 132 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), said a police officer.
Kotwali Station House Officer (SHO) Vishwanath Pratap Singh said no arrest was made in the case yet.
During the probe, police visited the hospital and reviewed CCTV footage from the premises, officials said.
SHO Singh said that in the police complaint, the complainant alleged that the two accused, who claimed to be journalists, entered the maternity ward, persuaded an admitted patient to give a statement, and then took her away from the hospital premises without any prior notice. The patient’s statement was later circulated on social media, contrary to government policy and against public interest, he alleged.
The complainant alleged that an attempt was made to give the incident a communal colour, thus disturbing religious harmony. The complaint also noted that the two persons were frequently seen on the hospital premises, especially near the emergency and labour rooms, where female patients are lodged.
Hospital’s Chief Medical Superintendent Dr Mahendra Gupta also said during the inquiry it was found that Usman and Mayank Srivastava forced their way into the hospital’s maternity ward after pushing the on-duty security guard and persuaded an admitted patient to give a statement. The allegations levelled in the video were found to be false, he said.
