Sixteen students of a private school in the Sandila area of Uttar Pradesh’s Hardoi district fell seriously ill on Thursday after an alleged gas leak from the school laboratory. The students, who reported violent coughing and uneasiness, were taken to nearby hospitals in Hardoi, and one of them was referred to King George Medical University, Lucknow, officials said, adding that the children were stable.
“The information came around 10 am that at Lions Public School, Sandila, students are complaining of violent coughing and uneasiness because of some alleged gas leak on the premises. Local authorities immediately rushed to the spot and 16 students were admitted to hospital. All are stable. However, one student, whose vitals are stable, has been referred to KGMU, Lucknow, for better pain management,” said Anunaya Jha, District Magistrate, Hardoi.
