Circle Officer (City) Nishank Sharma said: “Witnesses have told the police that Sonu had opened fire, leading to Feroz being hit in the chest. He was rushed to the hospital, where he was declared dead.” Sonu is set to be produced before the court on Monday and raids are on to trace the others.
City Kotwali Station House Officer Kuldeep Singh said the clash was the result of a dispute over possession of a house between residents of Karmu Kheri village Rafikan and Jiju. “Rafikan reportedly had borrowed Rs 80,000 from Jiju, his neighbour, after mortgaging his house. A few months ago, Rafikan reportedly sold the house to Jiju but was not vacating it,” he added.
The SHO said, “It was decided that Rafikan would give Rs 6 lakh to Jiju to retain his house. Rafikan reportedly paid only Rs 2 lakh to Jiju.” On Saturday, Jiju and his associates had gone to Rafikan’s house to ask for the remaining money. “This led to a heated argument. One of Jiju’s associate, Sonu, opened fire and a bullet hit Firoz who was standing nearby,” the SHO said.
