Staff on strike, BSP workers enter memorials free

Employees had closed the memorials and were staging sit-in outside since January 3 forcing ticketing staff to stop work.

Nearly 2,000 BSP workers, who reached Lucknow Tuesday to attend Mayawati’s Savdhaan Rally to be held Wednesday, were allowed free entry at Bhimrao Ambedkar Samajik Parivartan Sthal and other memorials in the city following an ongoing strike by the employees of the memorials.

Employees had closed the memorials and were staging sit-in outside since January 3 forcing ticketing staff to stop work. No visitor was allowed entry.
However, the employees opened gates for BSP workers Tuesday and allowed them inside without ticket.
Management committee officials said “Agitating employees chased away the ticketing staff. We cannot work there without police security.”

BSP workers are likely to get free entry Wednesday too, as nearly 60 ticketing staff have denied to work without police protection.
Assistant City Magistrate RK Gautam told The Indian Express, “I have received a memorandum from employees who have reportedly called off the dharna. However, I have come to know that another group has begun agitation.”
