Five killed after car mows them down pedestrians in Agra, driver arrested

The accused was driving a Tata Nexon car, said police.

At least five people, including a food delivery agent, were killed and two others injured after a car ran over pedestrians near Agra late Friday evening, said police on Saturday.

The incident took place in Nagla Budhi under the limits of New Agra City. The errant driver of the Tata Nexon car has been arrested, said police.

According to police, the deceased have been identified as Babli (33), Bhanu Pratap (25), Kamal (23), Krishna (20) and Bantesh (21).

“The five critically injured victims were rushed to Sarojini Naidu Medical College on Friday night, where doctors declared them dead on arrival,” said Assistant Commissioner of Police, New Agra, Shesh Mani Upadhyay.

Upadhayay said that the accident occurred around 8.30 pm. According to eyewitnesses, the car first hit the delivery agent and later rammed into other people before hitting the median on the main road.

“We have sent the bodies for a post-mortem and further legal proceedings are underway. We have taken both the vehicle and the driver into custody and an FIR has been registered under relevant sections,” he said.

“Bhanu Pratap worked as a food delivery agent for Zomato. Those injured have been identified as Rahul and Golu who are currently being treated at the hospital,” an official said.
