Six arrested for friend’s kidnap,murder in Kanpur,pistols seized

The inability of the Kanpur police to crack any of the kidnapping cases has once again come to the fore with the murder of Shivam Bajpai (17),who was kidnapped on August 17.

On late Thursday evening,the police arrested six friends of Bajpai,who admitted to have murdered him on Wednesday night. The accused are Amit Yadav,Sanjay Yadav,Sunil Pandey,Kranti Singh,Akhilesh Awasthi and Kuldip.

The police recovered five country-made pistol,12 cartridges,two motorcycles and six mobile handsets from their possession.

This is the second such case in less than 45 days. On July 12,Karan Maheshwari was found brutally murdered at Kidwai Nagar area. He was kidnapped on July 9.

“The accused are either his school mates or come from the same locality as Bajpai,” said OP Singh,ASP (Crime).

According to him,the accused had made a ransom call of Rs 5 lakh. But due to the fear of getting caught they decided to murder Bajpai.

“They have admitted that they strangled Bajpai to death in Pipargawna village near River Pandu. Thereafter,his body was thrown in the river,” said Bajpai.

He informed that the police teams and professional divers have already started searching for Bajpai’s body. A student of Maharishi Vidya Mandir,Bajpai left his Anandpuram residence on August 17 for his coaching class. His father Pradip Kumar Bajpai is currently posted in the office of SDM of Khaga in Fatehpur district. “Around 7 pm on August 17,my son called his sister Pradipika and told that the bicycle got punctured near Hanspuram,” said Pradip.

When he did not return till late evening,the family members started searching for him. “Around 10 pm,we made a call on Shivam’s number and the call was received by a stranger who claimed that my son was kidnapped,” said Pradip.

Noor Ullah (22),meanwhile,returned to his Jajmau residence on Thursday afternoon. Noor had been kidnapped on August 5 from the Jajmau area. While initially the police had denied that he was kidnapped,later a case of kidnapping was registered at Chakeri police station.

“We enforced immense pressure on the kidnappers. This helped Noor to escape from the ravines of Chitrakoot,” said Singh.

According to him,Noor had been kidnapped and later sold to the dacoits in Allahabad. “Some close friends of Noor were involved in his kidnapping,but we are not in a position to reveal their names,” added Singh.

A joint team of Kanpur police,Special Operation Group,Banda police and Chitrakoot police has been working on the case,he added.

“I was kidnapped and taken to the ravines of Chitrakoot from where I managed to escape,” said Noor.
