Singer found dead at Sultanpur residence, cops rule out foul play

The police said there is no hint of foul play at this point and no FIR has been registered in the matter so far. The post-mortem report is awaited, said an officer.

The woman’s father Babban Singh told The Indian Express, “My daughter Vijay Laxmi, who is known in Bollywood as Mallika Rajput, was not only an actor but a versatile artist… a singer, poet, and writer.” He added, “She had worked with Bollywood actor Kangana Ranaut in the 2014 film, Revolver Rani. She had also authored a book on prominent political figures.”

Sultanpur Superintendent of Police Somen Barma said that the next course of action would be determined on the basis of the
inquiry report. “When the body was found, the woman’s family members, including her mother, were present in the house, located in the Sitakund. The family has not made any allegations against any person so far,” said a police officer.

The police were informed and launched a preliminary inquiry after a team reached the residence in the Sitakund area of Sultanpur
Babban Singh claimed, “In 2015, my daughter had married a senior government officer in 2015. A few years later, he started harassing her. She left Mumbai and came to Sultanpur but visited Mumbai frequently. My daughter had been battling depression for three years due to marital issues.”

Mallika Rajput had recently organised a programme in Sultanpur in which Bollywood personalities participated, said Singh, a retired government employee. He added, “I don’t know what went wrong recently.”
