The state department of Information Technology and Electronics is all set to make rural women computer literate. The department,as part of the Government of Indias Centre Of Excellence scheme,will be training 1,000 women each in Rae Bareli and Sultanpur districts as a pilot project. The training will be given at the Common Service Centres (CSCs) and some of the women will also be provided employment.
The project,which is being supported by the Union government,will begin from April 1. Giving details,state Principal Secretary,IT,Chandra Prakash,said,This is a prestigious project of the Central government and will make women of all age groups computer literate. The Centre itself has chosen Rae Bareli and Sultanpur as districts for the pilot phase. After the pilot phase is over,we will take this project to the entire state.
Fifty CSCs have already been chosen under the scheme in both the districts. Every village has one CSC where villagers can get information and also lodge their complaints online regarding various schemes. They can also register online for services like caste certificates and income certificates. These centres are run by private companies called as Village Level Entrepreneurs (VLEs).
Under the project,each CSC will be training 20 women in computer literacy. The duration of the programme would be 80 hours,after which each of the trainee will have to give a DOEACC certification exam. With this certificate in hand,a woman can get a job easily, said Chandra Prakash. On clearing the certification exam,the beneficiaries will get a cash incentive of Rs 360.
The age and qualification criteria of the trainees will be decided by the VLE. Chandra Prakash said,We have suggested that some of the trainees can be given jobs at the CSCs itself,but that will depend on their performance.
