Police stop Amitabh Thakur from going to CM Akhilesh Yadav’s house, he holds sit-in outside

Thakur claimed the policemen, including Gautampalli police Station Officer S K Katiyar, stopped him from going near the CM’s residence, claiming that it was a high security zone and that Section 144 of the CrPC was in force. “The concerned section is applicable only when there is an assembly of more than five persons… I was going alone with just a laptop and a mattress,” he said.

Thakur, who later staged a sit-in for a brief period, left the place saying he will move court as his constitutional right has been infringed upon, which he said was an offence under IPC. He claimed that DIG D K Chaudhary’s suspension was revoked within 15 days after he had “slapped an old man” during an anti-encroachment drive in Lucknow last month.

The suspension of Thakur, the then IG (Civil Defence), had come days after he had filed a complaint with the police alleging that he had been “threatened” by SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav over phone. He had also made public the audio of the purported conversation.
According to Thakur, Mulayam had called him after his wife Nutan, a social activist, had filed a complaint with the Lokayukta against UP Mining Minister Gayatri Prasad Prajapati for allegedly amassing disproportionate wealth.

Later, Thakur was also booked in a case for allegedly amassing properties disproportionate to his known sources of income by the Vigilance Establishment. Thakur has denied the charges.
