Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit his Lok Sabha constituency Varanasi on Friday to address ‘One World TB Summit’ and also dedicate and lay foundation stones for various projects worth over Rs 1,780 crore, said a Prime Minister’s Office press release.
To mark World Tuberculosis Day, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) and the Stop TB Partnership are organising the summit where international delegates from over 30 countries are scheduled to be present. Founded in 2001, the Stop TB Partnership is a United Nations-hosted organisation that amplifies the voices of the people, communities and countries affected by TB.
During the event, the PM will launch various initiatives, including TB-Mukt Panchayat initiative; official pan-India rollout of a shorter TB Preventive Treatment (TPT); family-centric care model for TB and the release of India’s Annual TB Report 2023.
Besides, the Prime Minister will also award select states/UTs and districts for making progress towards ending TB.
In March 2018, during the End TB Summit held in New Delhi, the Prime Minister had called upon the country to achieve TB-related Sustainable Development Goal (?SDG)? targets by 2025, five years ahead of the stipulated time.
In another function at Sampurnanand Sanskrit University ground, the PM will lay the foundation stone for a passenger ropeway from Varanasi Cantt station to Godowlia facilitating tourists, pilgrims and residents of Varanasi in their movement.
The 3.75 km ropeway with five stations will come up at an estimated cost of Rs 645 crore.
The PM will also lay the foundation stone for a 55 MLD sewage treatment plant at Bhagwanpur under the Namami Ganga Scheme. It will be built at the cost of more than Rs 300 crore.
Under the Khelo India Scheme, the foundation stone for Phases 2 and 3 of the redevelopment work of Sigra Stadium will be laid by the Prime Minister.
The PM will also lay the foundation stone for an LPG bottling plant at Isarwar village, Sewapuri; a primary health centre in Bharthara village; a floating jetty with changing rooms, etc.
Under the Jal Jeevan Mission, the Prime Minister will dedicate 19 drinking water schemes for the benefit of over 3 lakh people across 63 gram panchayats. To further strengthen the rural drinking water system, the PM will also lay the foundation stone of 59 drinking water schemes.
