As the third edition of the Uttar Pradesh International Trade Show (UPITS 2025) concluded in Greater Noida on Monday with a grand closing ceremony, Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said UPITS not only reflected the economic, industrial, and cultural potential of the state but also of the country.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, Goyal praised Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, saying he transformed Uttar Pradesh in the past eight-and-a-half years. “Law and order were strengthened, investor confidence returned, and a new era of inclusive development began when the people of Uttar Pradesh voted the BJP to power in 2017 with a two-thirds majority,” Goyal said.
Noting that Uttar Pradesh was the first state to establish a separate Ministry for Export Promotion, the Union minister said the One District One Product (ODOP) scheme has now expanded to over 750 districts nationwide, with more than 1,200 products gaining global recognition.
Goyal also said that Unity Malls will be established in Lucknow, Agra, and Varanasi, showcasing ODOP products from all 75 districts of the state.
He said that while only 400–500 industrial units were established annually in the past, over 3,000 new units were expected to be set up in Uttar Pradesh this year. “Major infrastructure projects, such as the Dedicated Freight Corridor, expressways, airports, including Jewar airport, multi-modal logistics parks, and inland waterways, are becoming a reality in the state,” he added.
According to Giyal, UPITS provided a vast platform, giving products from Uttar Pradesh global recognition. “From glassware from Firozabad, brass work from Moradabad, Banarasi sarees, Lucknow chikankari, to Agra’s leather products, the event has showcased the state’s craftsmanship to the world,” he said.
Targeting the Opposition Congress, Goyal accused the previous UPA government at the Centre of corruption and economic mismanagement.
“Back then, the GDP growth hovered around 4 percent, inflation reached 8–8.5 per cent, and foreign exchange reserves were weak,” he alleged.
“Today, India stands as the fourth-largest economy in the world, soon to become the third-largest, with substantial foreign exchange reserves,” Goyal claimed, adding developed nations worldwide are “eager to sign free-trade agreements with India”.
He also criticised the previous governments in the UP, alleging that before 2017, the state was “plagued by an atmosphere of fear and crime”.
“Traders felt unsafe. Half of Noida’s projects remained incomplete, and many factories had shut down. However, the scenario transformed after the Yogi government came to power,” he claimed.
Over the four-day event, 2,500 exhibitors showcased their products, more than 24,400 business meetings were conducted, and 2,400 MoUs were signed, the government said in a statement, adding that it generated a record trade volume of Rs 11,200 crore.
This year, Russia was the partner country, with more than 30 Russian delegates exploring investment opportunities. The event featured over 2,200 stalls and welcomed 500 buyers from more than 80 countries.
UP minister Rakesh Sachan said over 90,000 youth were engaged through the CM Yuva Udyami Abhiyaan, while 26 educational institutions signed agreements, providing students exposure to new business prospects.
The “Khadi for Nation – Khadi for Fashion” drew large audience. State exports surged from Rs 80,000 crore to Rs 2 lakh crore, the government claimed.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed that “UPITS-inspired” local product trade fairs be held across all 75 districts in the state, starting October 9, ahead of Diwali, to expand markets for entrepreneurs and encourage citizens to support local products.
