PWD Minister Shivpal Singh Yadav on Tuesday demanded an inquiry into the road construction works carried out by the previous Mayawati government alleging that project funds were diverted to parks and memorials.
Speaking on the cut motion by BSP member T Ram on the budget of PWD department,Yadav alleged that works were carried out at four times high estimates and at several places like Banda,Ballia,Bareilly and Allahabad payments were made without getting any work done.
The minister claimed that Rs 300 crore were spent on 22 km of ring road in Lucknow which remained incomplete and Rs 10,000 crores were spent on roads in three districts,but they are still in a very bad shape.
The minister,who presented a budget Rs 7,194 crore,promised that soon condition of roads will be improved in the entire state,and said that strict action would be taken against all those found guilty of malpractices.
