The Saharanpur police today rescued a 21-year-old girl, who claimed she was an NRI from London and had been kidnapped from Delhi, from a house at Talhari Bijurg village.

The police also arrested two men, identified as Raju and Palesh, who said they had brought the girl from Dehradun. “A case would be lodged against the duo for kidnapping and forcibly detaining the girl,” said Durga Charan Mishra,Saharanpur Senior Superintendent of Police.

He said that the girl — who said she was Gauri Ghosale and that her grandmother lives in Malda in Bengal — did not carry any document. “We are questioning her to confirm her address and other details,” said the SSP. However, the police has informed the British High Commission in Delhi.

The SSP said that the girl told them that she came to India on October 10 because she was annoyed with her parents in London. She first visited Mumbai, then Ganga Nagar in Rajasthan, then went to Delhi and stayed in a hotel.

She decided to visit her grandmother in Malda and,on October 15,hired a taxi to go to the Old Delhi railway station to catch a train, the SSP said. On the way, however, the tax driver told her that the vehicle had developed a snag. While it was repaired,he offered to take her to his house, which was nearby, for food. After eating the food, the girl said she fell unconscious. When she regained consciousness, she found herself in some other place, she said.
