The Lucknow police Friday arrested a doctor for killing his pregnant wife by giving her an insulin overdose in May 2012. The two, said the police, were involved in a property dispute.
Dr Awadh Kapoor (35) was arrested from Hazratganj and produced in a court, which sent him to judicial custody.
Circle Officer of Hazratganj Dinesh Yadav said Dr Kapoor wanted his wife,Ritu Kapoor,to transfer her property in Hazratganj in his name.
On May 23 last year,Ritu was admitted in a hospital after her sugar level dropped. The next morning, when she was still in hospital, her husband claimed to have found her dead. Ritu was then 10-week pregnant.
On Ritus elder sister Neeta Khanna insistence, the postmortem was conducted and Ritus viscera preserved. Ritus blood sample was also sent to laboratory for tests.
Further,Neeta filed a complaint with the police charging Dr Kapoor with her sisters murder. She said Dr Kapoor was threatening to leave Ritu if she did not transfer her property in his name him. She also said that Ritu had also told her that Dr Kapoor was having an extra-marital affair.
Following Neetas request,a medical board was formed in September 2012 to verify Ritus medical report, which stated that the cause of death was cardiac arrest due to hypoglycaemia (insulin overdose).
The police said it was found that Ritu had 285.10 uiu/ml of insulin, which could be only given from outside,as such amount of insulin cannot be present naturally.
In February 2103, the police registered a murder case against Dr Kapoor. It recorded the statement of the domestic help who revealed that a woman used to visit Dr Kapoors clinic.
