TWO days after being granted interim bail for eight weeks from Supreme Court, Union Minister Ajay Mishra’s son Ashish Mishra, who is the prime accused in the killing of four farmers and a journalist in Lakhimpur Kheri in October 2021, walked out of jail on Friday evening after completing formalities. Mishra was lodged at Lakhimpur Kheri jail.

District Government Counsel, Lakhimpur Kheri, Arvind Tripathi said, “The Supreme Court judgment was put up before a local court in Lakhimpur Kheri. Following a court directive, two sureties each of Rs 3 lakh were deposited. After verification of the sureties were completed, the court directed Ashish Mishra’s release. The order was sent to the jail authorities.”

Superintendent, Lakhimpur Kheri jail, Vipin Mishra said, “Ashish Mishra was released from jail in the evening after obtaining release order from the local court.”

On Wednesday, the Supreme Court granted interim bail to Mishra and directed that he shall not stay in Uttar Pradesh or Delhi during this period.

Hearing Mishra’s plea challenging the Allahabad High Court order denying him bail, the SC said: “We are conscious of the grave allegations against the petitioner, but we must also acknowledge that principles of procedural fairness require these allegations to be proven in trial proceedings.”
