KESCO theft: Assistant storekeeper suspended

The chief engineer of Kanpur Electricity Supply Company has suspended the assistant storekeeper of Riverside Power House

The chief engineer of Kanpur Electricity Supply Company (KESCO) has suspended the assistant storekeeper of Riverside Power House (RPH) in the wake of the theft of copper wires and transformer oil worth more than Rs 40 lakh.

Prima facie evidence indicates the possible involvement of assistant storekeeper S N Singh,KESCO officials said. They also said Singh could thwart the departmental probe.

After the theft, the chief engineer lodged an FIR at Gwaltoli police station and formed a three-member team of senior departmental officials to probe the matter. The team has asked the department authorities at RPH to hand over the list of transformers and other electrical equipment kept there.

Keshav Ram,the chief engineer, said: “It is the biggest theft witnessed at any substation or office of KESCO,therefore the people responsible will not be spared at any cost.”

RPH is a major centre of KESCO,which not only distributes electricity to several important city areas including Civil Lines,Gwaltoli and Nawabganj, but also has one of the biggest storehouses of the power distribution company.
