After meeting Samajwadi Party (SP) president Mulayam Singh Yadav on Friday,Bareilly cleric Tauqeer Raza Khan said a committee to probe riots that have taken place since Akhilesh Yadav assumed power in the state will be constituted very soon.

“I was surprised when Mulayam asked me about the names of those who will be part of the committee. I had thought the names will be decided by the state government. Our next meeting is scheduled next Monday when I will hand over the names,” Raza said.

He also said Mulayam has agreed to a five-member committee. “Among them will be three Hindus and two Muslims with a woman. The members will be eminent human right activists, retired IPS,IAS officers and a judge. I will collect the biodata of the candidates and give to Mulayam.”

Raza said even though he told Mulayam that anyone can head the committee, the latter told him to accept the post. “I denied the post as it’s a huge responsibility. If I am on the committee, there could be opposition. If Mulayam persists,I will accept the post,” he said.

The Bareilly cleric also said Mulayam was concerned about vacant posts in corporations related to minority welfare.
