Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday announced that all government teachers in the state will now be eligible for cashless medical treatment and the decision will benefit nearly 9 lakh families.
The facility will cover the teachers employed in government primary, upper-primary, secondary, and aided schools and colleges, as well as shiksha mitras, instructors and cooks, he said.
Speaking at a state-level programme in Lucknow to mark Teachers’ Day where he honoured teachers, distributed tablets and inaugurated smart classrooms, the CM said from now onwards teachers and their families will no longer face financial difficulties in the event of illness or emergency.
Calling the announcement historic and “a token of the government’s gratitude for teachers’ contribution”, he said the departments of Basic Education, Secondary Education, and Higher Education will complete all formalities immediately and to extend the facility within a set timeframe.
The CM said, “Before 2017, the secondary education council had become a hub of cheating, with students from other states passing examinations through dishonest means. Today, exams are conducted transparently under CCTV surveillance. With 56 lakh students appearing in exams, results are now declared within a month.”
The UP board students are no longer inferior to other state boards, he claimed.
“Teachers remain teachers throughout their life. They hold higher importance than bureaucrats or politicians as they shape the nation’s foundation. Even as some people resorted to propaganda against schools’ merger and Bal Vatika programmes, many principals and teachers set examples with hard work and innovation,” he said.
“Under the new education policy, Bal Vatika has been launched for children aged 3–6 years. Over 5,000 Bal Vatikas have been opened in this session, enrolling more than 25,000 children in their first step to education,” the CM added.
At the award ceremony, 81 teachers, including 66 from the Basic Education and 15 from Secondary Education departments, were honoured with the State Teacher Award for their “exemplary contribution” in the field.
On the occasion, a children’s story collection ‘Gullak’ prepared by the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT), a ‘Bal Vatika’ handbook and an educational innovations compilation booklet ‘Udgam’ were released. The Chief Minister also launched the Udgam digital platform.
The Chief Minister felicitated five principals/teachers each from basic and secondary education with a cash prize of Rs 25,000, a citation, a statue of Goddess Saraswati, and a shawl. Tablets were distributed to the principals of 2,204 government secondary schools from across the state. The CM also inaugurated smart classes in 1,236 government secondary models.
The CM also announced the formation of a high-level committee to consider increasing allowances for shiksha mitras and instructors. The government will take a decision on this after receiving the committee’s report, he said.
