More than 14 lakh people in 1,087 villages of the eastern districts have been affected due to major rivers in the state flowing above the danger levels. Of this,around 19,000 are staying in flood relief camps. At least 11 deaths were reported and rescue operations are on in the five eastern districts of Allahabad,Ballia,Varanasi,Mirzapur and Ghazipur.
Ganga is flowing above the danger mark in Allahabad,Mirzapur,Varanasi,Ghazipur and Ballia districts,while Yamuna is flooding Allahabad,Sharda is surging in Lakhimpur Kheri and Ghaghra in Barabanki and Ballia.
Rescue teams of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) reached Allahabad,Ballia,Ghazipur and Mirzapur,where evacuation process in on. PAC companies are also carrying out rescue operations in Ghazipur and Mirzapur,while Army was called in to repair an embankment of the sewer treatment plant in Allahabad district.
One death was reported Thursday from Ghazipur district,where a company of PAC started rescue operations with four motor boats in Muhammadabad tehsil. Other tehsils affected include Sadar,Saidpur and Zamania,said ADM,Finance,Jeetendra Kumar,who is also the district flood officer.
In Mirzapur district,where 374 villages in Sadar and Chunar tehsil,10 deaths were reported in the last week. Eight deaths were reported in the district so far due to drowning,while two have been reported due to flood-demolished buildings, said ADM Finance,Krishna Lal. Three of these deaths were reported Thursday,he said.
