MEMBERS OF a local Hindu outfit on Monday reopened a temple in the Rasoolpur area of Firozabad that had remained locked for over three decades, police said. Upon receiving information about the matter, a team from the district administration and police reached the spot. Members of the organisation cleaned the temple premises and offered prayers, officers said.

To maintain law and order, a police team has been deployed outside the temple as a precautionary measure, they added.

Mohan Bajrangi, the Zila Seh Sehyojak of Firozabad’s Bajrang Dal, claimed that after being told about a temple that had been locked for over three decades, they informed thedministration and police about the matter.

On Sunday, some members of the Hindu outfit went to the site and broke open the lock. They then recited the Hanuman Chalisa and performed prayers. “Except for Lord

Hanuman, there were no idols in the temple. We plan to install new idols of deities soon,” Bajrangi said.

He explained that the temple is adjacent to a house that previously belonged to a Hindu family. Around 35 years ago, the family sold the house and took the idols from the temple with them. The property was later purchased by the family of a businessman, who belonged to another community.

“No one objected when we reopened the temple. We are now making arrangements to ensure that prayers are held here regularly,” Bajrangi added.

Superintendent of Police, Firozabad, Saurabh Dixit said that a meeting was convened with members of both communities to ensure peace.

This is the third temple reopening in the past two months, following similar instances in Sambhal and Moradabad.
