A man killed his wife,two of his daughters and his wifes cousin allegedly owing to financial crisis in Khutar area of Shahjahanpur district on Friday. The assailants minor son,who was also attacked by his father,is battling for life in a city hospital.
The accused was arrested later. he Shahjahanpur Superintendent of Police (SP),Krishna Mohan,said the accused Raju Yadav (40) of Dhakia Kaliya village had assaulted his wife Kanti (35),daughters Shilpi (14) and Simmi (10) and son Gopi Kishan (12) last night. Later,Yadav attacked his wife and the children with an axe when they were asleep.
On early Friday morning,Yadav attacked his wifes cousin Shanti (36) with the same axe killing her on the spot when she was going to the fields. Shanti was married to Yadavs cousin Satish and lived in his neighbourhood. Yadavs son Gopi was rushed to the hospital by the locals later,the SP said.
The Station Officer (SO) of the Khutar police station,Bhuvnesh Kumar Gautam,told The Indian Express that Yadav,who earlier owned 48 bighas of farming land,had sold off most of his land and presently has only one bigha left with him.
The SO said Yadav had gone to Haridwar two years ago where he worked at different construction sites as a labourer. He had returned to his native place about six months ago. He said Yadav often beat his wife alleging that she had an illicit relationship with his cousin Satish.
Gautam said Yadav had an altercation with Kanti last evening when she asked him to make efforts to earn money for the family. He attacked his family members when they were all asleep around 1.30 am. When Yadav saw his cousins wife Shanti walking outside his house around 4.30 am,he killed her also with the same axe.
