A day before the proposed strike by employees of the Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited who are demanding salaries as per the Sixth Pay Commission the government ousted the organisations Managing Director Avneesh Awasthi and Chairman V N Garg.
Garg had been posted on January 1 to tackle the crisis. The state government has now posted Secretary to the Chief Minister,Navneet Sehgal,as the Chairman and the Managing Director of UPPCL.
Immediately after taking charge,Sehgal,led by Minister for Power Ramveer Upadhyay,held a meeting with the UPPCL employees on Wednesday.
But no decision was made despite the three-hour meeting. Sehgal requested the protestors to give him some time to resolve the matter,as he had just joined the department.
The employees,adamant,asked the government to at least make the announcement instantly or give them the benefits March onwards,which the government has already refused to do.
The protestors,however,were elusive about their future course of action.
The dialogue ended on a positive note and we expect that the issue will soon be solved in an amicable manner, said Sehgal.
The employees of the corporation have been demanding immediate implementation of the Sixth Pay Commission in the corporation and had been boycotting work since December 31.
They had already given given an ultimatum to the government. unless it took a stand on the issue by January 8,they had threatened complete shutdown.
According to corporation sources,in a meeting between the employees and the government,held on the last week of December,the power minister and former chairman Pradeep Shukla had assured Sixth Pay Commission benefits to the employees.
The government,however,suddenly replaced Shukla and posted Garg in his stead, said an employee.
