Two constables, accused of dragging a woman police officer on the road early this month after she objected to their indulging in alleged extortion during a vehicle checking drive, surrendered in a court in Bareilly on Friday.
Constables Ravindra Yadav and Manoj Singh were sent to jail after they surrendered before district judge Kalimullaha Khan. Superintendent of Police (Traffic) Kalpana Saxena had suffered a fracture in her hand and injuries on her head in the incident.Of the four accused, one Dharmendra was arrested earlier. Another constable,Ravindra Sonkar,is still absconding.
On September 2,Saxena had received a tip-off that some constables were extorting money from truck drivers. She reached the spot with her driver and gunner and questioned the three constables present there. They denied the allegations. Following this,Saxena asked her staff to check their pockets. Sensing trouble, the three constables attacked her and later attempted to flee.
While they were fleeing,Saxena caught hold of the collar one constable, but instead of stopping the vehicle, the policemen sped away dragging her along.
