The Uttar Pradesh Police constable recruitment examination started at 1,174 centres amid heavy security across the state on Friday.

This comes in the wake of the cancellation of the previous recruitment examinations held on February 17 and 18 amid allegations of paper leaks.

The examination, which is being held across 67 districts of the state, will be conducted in two shifts spanning five days, officials said. Nearly 48 lakh candidates are likely to appear in the examination, it is learnt.

On Friday, the candidates were subjected to multiple rounds of checks at the exam centers secured by personnel of the police, Special Task Force (STF) and Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC). The examination centres are being monitored through CCTV and drone cameras. Officials in plainclothes were also stationed around the exam centers. Also, sector and zonal magistrates were stationed at all centers, with mobile jammers in place.

On the first day of the exam, five persons were detained for allegedly using unfair means. These persons were caught for offences such as providing false name and date of birth, using earphones inside and outside the examination centre, and possessing multiple admit cards.

“Cases are being filed after verifying the details,” said a senior police officer.

Sources, however, claimed that over three dozen persons were detained on suspicion of using unfair means.
