The Planning Commission of India will soon evaluate the impact of implementation of special Bundelkhand package given to Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh under 11th five year plan.
The assessment study comes at a time when Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi has been blaming the two state governments for misuse and under-utilisation of funds during his rallies in the run-up to the Lok Sabha elections.
The task of conducting quick assessment study on overall impact of special Bundelkhand package has been given to NABARD Consultancy services Pvt Ltd (NABCONS). A two member team headed by NABARD senior official V Mohandoss would be visiting Bundelkhand region of UP on December 16-17. The team will hold meetings with the officials of all the line departments to devise the methodology of the study.
NABCONS has been given February 28,2014 deadline to submit the final report to the Planning Commission, said a government officer.
In 2009,the plan panel had approved a special package for implementing drought mitigation strategies in Bundelkhand region at a cost of Rs7,266 crore. This package - Rs 3,506 crore for UP and Rs 3,760 crore for Madhya Pradesh - was to be implemented over a period of three years starting from 2009-10. Though, the Centre has given extended package to both the state in the 12th five year plan as well but the focus of the study would be to asses the impact of the previous package.
