The Uttar Pradesh Police have initiated an inquiry into a complaint alleging that two brothers managed to secure jobs in the force on compensatory grounds after the death of their father.
Police said the elder brother, who had joined the police through this route, retired from service last year, while the younger brother continues to serve in the department.
Police said the inquiry will examine how both siblings were appointed under the same provision, which typically applies to only one dependent in a family. Such appointments are generally meant to provide financial relief to the bereaved family by offering employment to a dependent.
Police said they initiated an inquiry after receiving a complaint alleging that the brothers had fraudulently secured jobs on compensatory grounds following the death of their father, who was serving as a constable and died while on duty.
The complaint claimed that both brothers managed to obtain appointments under the same provision, which is meant to provide employment to a single dependent of a deceased government employee.
As per information, the elder son joined the police force in 1986. Nearly 11 years later, in 1997, his younger brother also entered the police force as a constable in Meerut.
Over the years, the elder brother rose through the ranks and was eventually promoted to the position of Deputy Superintendent of Police (Administration). He retired from service last year while posted in Agra.
When contacted, Agra Police Commissioner Deepak Kumar confirmed that the matter is under inquiry. He added that action would be taken on the basis of the inquiry report.
Additional Superintendent of Police Himanshu Gaurav has been tasked with carrying out a detailed inquiry into the allegations.
As a precautionary measure, the police department has withheld pension and retirement benefits of the elder brother, said an officer.
