The BJP Wednesday constituted a 11-member committee to review the Assembly poll results and find out the reasons for party’s poor performance in the elections. The committee members will organise meetings in all districts and review the poll results of every Assembly constituency before March 31.

Party state president Surya Pratap Shahi held a meeting with all party office-bearers and reviewed the preliminary reasons behind party’s poor performance in the elections. “We had expected to win at least 100 seats, but were confined to 47 seats only. That happened because of polarisation of votes,” Shahi said. He said the BJP lost five seats with a margin of less than 500 votes.

Shahi said other reasons for party’s loss in the elections would be reviewed by the committee. The committee has Anupama Jaiswal and Jaiprakash Nishad who themselves faced defeat in the elections. Anupama lost the election in Bahraich while Jaiprakash lost in Rudrapur. The committee would be headed by party state president Laxmikant Vajpayee.

The party has also formed two separate committees to supervise the party’s preparations for the upcoming local body elections.
