ATS arrests suspected ISI agent in Kanpur

The Anti-Terror Squad of UP Police arrested one Faizal Rahman from Kanpur on Sunday for working for Pakistan’s intelligence agency ISI.

The Anti-Terror Squad of UP Police arrested one Faizal Rahman from Kanpur on Sunday for working for Pakistan’s intelligence agency ISI.

Rahman,a native of Jharkhand’s Ranchi district,was arrested from an ATM in Rail Bazar police circle. ATS said Rahman works as a lecturer in a Karachi college and frequently visited Pakistan.

In 2002,he came in touch with an ISI official who persuaded him to work for the agency in India. Since 2004,he had been working for ISI which had trained him in collection of information about Indian Army and sending it to Pakistan,a statement released by the ATS stated.

The ATS said it was collecting information about other Indian youths Rahman had sent to Pakistan to get training from ISI. Rehman told his interrogators that he had also visited Russia for pursuing an engineering course with the help of an agent.

He stayed in Russia between 1993 to 1996 and learned Russian language. Since the agent did not deposit his fee,he could not complete the engineering course,the statement said.
