The warden of a girls’ school in Lucknow has been booked for allegedly harassing, threatening, and assaulting girl students following an inquiry into their complaints, officials said.

A notice was issued to terminate her services, they added.

Two days ago, a few students of the school, accompanied by their parents, approached District Magistrate Vishak G during the Samadhan Diwas. They alleged that the warden had subjected them to mental and physical harassment, and also produced photographs to support their claims.

Taking the matter seriously, the administration immediately removed the warden from her post and attached her to the office of the Basic Shiksha Adhikari (BSA).

The District Magistrate said a three-member team was constituted to inquire into the allegations, which submitted its preliminary report on Sunday. Following this, a notice was issued to the warden for termination of her services.

Officials said she was employed on a contractual basis. No arrest has been made so far.

According to police, a case against the warden has been registered on the complaint of Block Education Officer, Sunil Kumar Kannojia.

The complainant stated that during the inquiry, several girls alleged that the warden deliberately discriminated against them in the distribution of items in the dormitory, assaulted them over trivial issues, and used abusive language.

The girls further claimed that she threatened to get them expelled from the school and harass them further if they reported her actions. They also alleged that she forced them to clean the premises and toilets, as well as perform kitchen duty such as cutting vegetables and rolling chapatis.

Station House Officer, Dileep Kumar Singh, said the investigation into the case has begun.

The case has been filed against the warden under BNS sections 115 (voluntarily causing hurt), 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace), 351 (criminal intimidation) and also under sections of the Juvenile Justice Act.
