After the Deepotsav celebrations in Ayodhya, the UP government is gearing up for the Dev Deepawali and Ganga Mahotsav festivities, which will be organised in Varanasi from this weekend.

While Dev Deepawali, celebrated on the banks of Ganga, will start from November 3 and conclude on November 5, the Ganga Mahotsav, which features music and dance performances by local artists, will be held from November 1 to 4.

According to the officials, the government is expecting a footfall of 10 lakh people in Varanasi for the Dev Deepawali celebrations.

Officials said arrangements are being made for the Dev Deepawali celebrations in Varanasi, which will include a choreographed fireworks show, 3D projection mapping, and a laser show, along with the target of lighting 25 lakh diyas. Ten lakh diyas would be arranged by the government, while the remaining 15 lakh would be arranged by volunteers, said the officials.

Dev Deepawali, regarded as the Diwali of Gods, is celebrated on the full moon night in the month of Karthik also called ‘Karthik Poornima’.

“After Ayodhya’s record-breaking Deepotsav, the focus is now on Kashi. This year’s Dev Deepawali, organised by the state Tourism Department, will showcase new large-scale experiences combining technology, sustainability and community participation,” said a government official.

The 25-minute long laser shows planned for Chet Singh Ghat and Ganga Dwar would depict stories and folklore related to Goddess Ganga, Lord Shiva, Kashi, and the importance of Dev Deepawali, informed the officials.

The computer-controlled fireworks show would be of 10 minutes each and would reach a height of 200 meters.

“This year, the highlight is choreographed aerial green firecracker show where for the first time a show is being curated in Varanasi by the tourism department,” the official said. This 10-minute presentation will be computer-controlled and synchronised to music and laser effects, ensuring continuous sequences without “dark sky” gaps, said the official. “Only eco-friendly green crackers will be used. The entire display will be digital to minimise smoke, sound and residue,” added the official.

According to the official, the 25-minute 3D projection mapping and laser show will use 30,000-lumen laser projectors, high-resolution mapping systems, and a floating control platform of approximately 800 square feet placed on the Ganga for technical operations.

Officials said that six shows have been planned between November 4 and 5 to accommodate larger audiences.
