11 die in Lucknow fire incidents

Seven persons died while four others sustained burns after a firecracker-laden truck (UP 84 C-9612) caught fire in the Kurawali area of Mainpuri district on Friday evening.

Seven persons died while four others sustained burns after a firecracker-laden truck (UP 84 C-9612) caught fire in the Kurawali area of Mainpuri district on Friday evening. The deceased include three women and four children.

Superintendent of Police (SP) D K Rai said the incident took place near Ganga Jamuni village and while the driver managed to escape,three women and their four children were trapped.

Four others managed to escape with minor burns after they jumped from the vehicle. The victims were on way to Etah district and had taken a lift in the truck,said Rai.

In another incident,four persons including a six-month-old baby died after their hut was allegedly set afire in Gauriganj area of Sultanpur district on Thursday night. Five persons were arrested later.

Superintendent of Police Satyendra Veer Singh said the deceased include include Qamar Jahan (24),her son Mohammad Hasnain (6 months) and sisters Marjina (16) and Parveen (10).

Jahan’s father Ramzan Ali told police that the family had gone to have meals at his brother’s house. His daughters returned home with the child after dinner,while others stayed back. An hour later,Ramzan spotted his hutment engulfed in flames and by the time the fire was doused,the four had died.

One Asgar Ali and six of his associates were named as accused and the police have made five arrests. Ramzan and Asgar have over half-a-dozen property-related cases pending in court,the SP said.
