Veteran Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Sougata Roy, 77, was admitted to a private hospital in Kolkata on Sunday after experiencing loss of consciousness.

The Belle Vue Clinic stated that Roy had several episodes of diarrhoea on Sunday. The TMC leader is currently undergoing further investigations, and his condition is being monitored under the care of his family physician Dr Manoj Shah.

Despite these concerns, the hospital said, Roy’s blood pressure, pulse, and oxygen saturation are stable. He is awake and alert, and had tea and snacks on Sunday evening. He is receiving round-the-clock monitoring with his vital signs accessible to consultants online, and continuous nursing care is being provided, it added.

Around two months ago, Sougata Roy fell ill at the Parliament complex after participating in a Lok Sabha debate. Parliament staff subsequently rushed him to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital where he was admitted and received treatment.

Roy represents Dum Dum constituency in West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas district. He has previously served as Union minister of state for urban development under the Manmohan Singh government.
