Police have registered an FIR after a group of people dressed in Army uniform were seen entering the administrative centre of Jadavpur University in Kolkata on Wednesday morning. The FIR has been registered under IPC sections 140 (wearing garb or carrying token used by soldier, sailor or airman) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention)
According to police, around 4.20 pm, a person identified as Quazi Sadeque Hossain, secretary general of ‘Asian Human Rights Society’, and others entered the Jadavpur University campus along with 25-30 people. “These civilians were in full camouflaged Army uniform with red caps having ‘Indian Army/ Bhartiya Sena’ printed on it along with logos of Indian Army, which were meant to be used exclusively by the Indian army personnel. Thereby, they have misused the uniforms used by the Indian Army,” said a police officer.
Meanwhile, a local court extended the police custody of Joydeep Ghosh, an accused who was arrested for allegedly obstructing police from discharging their duties after a 17-year-old undergraduate student fell from the balcony of the main hostel on August 9 night. The court rejected Ghosh’s bail plea and sent him to jail custody till September 5.
