Rain is not likely to play a spoilsport during the Durga Puja festivities in West Bengal this time as the sky will remain largely clear in Kolkata and other districts of the state, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has said.
Barring north Bengal, weather in the state will remain dry on Saptami, Ashtami, Navami, and Dashami (Dussehra), an IMD official said, adding that the southwest monsoon has withdrawn from parts of the sub-Himalayan West Bengal and the Gangetic plains of the state.
“No significant rainfall is expected in the districts of West Bengal from October 17-24,” said GK Das, director, Regional Meteorological Centre, Alipore.
There, however, is a possibility of light rain at a couple of places in Darjeeling and Kalimpong districts, the weather office said.
While on October 21 and 22 (Saptami and Ashtami), the weather will be mainly dry in the districts, the sky will be a little cloudy with a small possibility of “very light to light rain” at some places in Kolkata, Purba Medinipur, Paschim Medinipur, South 24 Parganas, North 24 Parganas, Howrah, Hooghly districts, officials said.
Preparations are in full swing in Kolkata and other parts of the state for the five-day Durga Puja festival starting October 20.
