Trinamool MLA and Leader of Opposition in the state Assembly Partho Chatterjee on Saturday raised the issue of his party chief and Union Railway Minister Mamata Banerjees phone allegedly being tapped.
At Banerjees Kalighat residence,Chatterjee said party MP and Union Minister of State for Shipping Mukul Roy has already written a letter to Union Home Minister P Chidambaram on the issue.
It was in October that we wrote a letter to the home secretary about our leaders phone being tapped. Now,we are writing a letter to the Union Home Minister. This cannot go on. Every day, they are tapping her phone and recording her conversations, said Chatterjee.
Holding the state government responsible for the infringing upon Banerjees rights,Chatterjee said Joint Commissioner of Kolkata police and Chief of Special Task Force Rajiv Kumar has been entrusted with the job of tapping Banerjees phones.
Under direct instructions from Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, the police are monitoring every move of our leader. This is an infringement of her rights. We have proof that every conversation of hers is being recorded by the police, added Chatterjee.
In Canning on Saturday,Banerjee, meanwhile, announced a horde of new railway projects for South 24-Parganas. These include transforming Canning and Ghutiarisharif stations in to model ones, among others.
A number of projects are yet to be announced in Bengal. I am planning a direct train from Ghutiarisharif to Ajmer Sharif. There are other projects in the pipeline for which I am awaiting the arrival of new trains. When new coaches are ready,I will definitely announce more for the people here, said Banerjee.
She also announced train services to the Gangasagar Mela and promised to start a Canning-Sealdah special train for women, besides other projects.
Tight security for Mamatas march in Hooghly
As Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee begins her padayatra in trouble-torn Hooghly tomorrow, the administration has stepped up the security in the area with a huge contingent of armed police being posted along the route of her proposed march and at Tarakeswar, where she will address a gathering.
Recently,Trinamool and CPM supporters clashed at Khanakul in Hooghly when Banerjee visited there.
We cannot take any chance on her security. Elaborate arrangements are made along the route. Apart from her own security guards and NSG commandos, additional policemen will escort her and her party leaders, said Hooghly SP Satyajit Bandopadhyay. According to police sources, the entire six-km route of her march to Tarakeswar will be cordoned off.
