The death of a local Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader under suspicious circumstances in West Bengal’s South 24 Parganas has triggered a controversy, with his family alleging that he has been poisoned over a monetary dispute.
The body of Rabindranath Mondal, a resident of Jibantala village in the district’s Canning sub-division and the secretary of TMC’s booth number 218, was found near his house on Wednesday morning. While locals claim they saw him drunk the night before, his family accused two neighbours of lacing his drinks with poison.

“His whole body, hands and feet were black. Though I have seen him come home drunk before, this has never happened. He has been killed,” his wife Bedabati Mondal said. The body has been sent for postmortem examination.
