THE WEST Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education (WBCHSE) is planning to change the higher secondary (class 11 and 12) syllabus to help students in Bengal fare well in competitive examinations. The council on Saturday held a meeting in this regard. The Council plans to bring the revised syllabus into effect from the 2024-25academic year. It was decided in a meeting that the syllabus would be revised for 47 subjects.
A four-member committee has been formed for each of the 47 subjects taught in the higher secondary and whose syllabus will be revised. The Council however felt that apart from these 47 subjects, the vocational subjects need no modification in the syllabus at present.
The committees will submit their recommendations by January next year. The four-member committee will comprise two school representatives, one university representative and one college representative. However, for 12 to 13 subjects, the committee will have a fifth representative who will be experts from Central Board of Secondary Education (CBFC).
“The committees have been given a deadline till January 2024 to submit their proposals (for revision). If the school education department approves such proposals then the revised syllabus will come into effect from 2024-25 academic year,” said Chiranjib Bhattacharjee, president of WBCHSE, after the meeting.
Sources said discussions were held on starting a semester system in the higher secondary (class 11 and 12). It may be noted that the syllabus for class 11 and 12 are being modified after more than a decade. The last change was done in 2012-13 after the Trinamool Congress government had come to power for the first time in 2011.
