Army patrol fires on suspicious movement in Poonch district

On the eve of the G-20 meeting in Srinagar, an Army patrol in Poonch district’s Mendhar tehsil of Jammu and Kashmir encountered suspicious movement and responded by opening fire in the early hours of Sunday.

The incident occurred around 3.30 am, and subsequent searches were conducted, but nothing suspicious was found, sources said.

This area is near Bhatta Durian, where an Army truck was attacked by militants on April 20, resulting in the deaths of five soldiers. Searches have been ongoing in the region since the attack.

In a separate incident, a Pakistani intruder was killed along the Line of Control in Balakote, Mendhar, and an IED and narcotics were recovered from him.
