Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Tuesday promised to make one crore women members of self-help groups “crorepatis” in the next five years.
Addressing a gathering of women self-help groups in Hyderabad as part of the launch of Mahila Shakthi, a new policy for the empowerment of women, Reddy announced sanctioning of Rs 1 lakh crore interest-free loans through state’s ‘stree nidhi’ initiatives and banks.
Urging women to support the government and give the Congress victory in 14 out of 17 seats in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, Revanth said 65 lakh women across the state associated with 6 lakh SHGs produced top-quality products displaying their talent, and yet there were no platforms for them to sell their products.
“In the coming month, 100 stalls will be set up near Shilparamam for women SHGs to showcase and sell their products,” Reddy added. The government will open up new avenues to promote and market their products at national and international markets.
He said the number of SHG members should increase from the current 65 lakh to 1 crore and that the state government is responsible for making them ‘crorepatis’ in five years.
