There was turmoil in the Telangana BJP on Wednesday as its president and Karimnagar MP, Bandi Sanjay Kumar, alleged that leaders of the ruling Bharat Rashtra Samithi were covertly teaming up with Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao to remove him from his position.
“KCR is planting rumours about a BJP leadership change in the state to confuse the party’s cadres. The BJP national leadership, including Telangana in-charge Tarun Chugh, has clarified several times that there is no question of changing the state president. Yet some media houses are repeatedly carrying reports that I am being replaced by some other leader as Telangana BJP chief,” he said.
Kumar said though there was a saying that there would be no smoke without fire, it would be untrue in the BJP’s case. “There is neither fire, nor smoke. It has become routine for the media to carry reports about a change of leadership in Telangana (BJP) and for our party workers to read such reports,” he said.
Kumar said spreading such baseless rumours could be part of a conspiracy hatched by KCR. “Instead of setting his own house right, KCR is trying to create smoke in the Opposition party to confuse our cadres. But none of the BJP workers believes in such rumours,” he said.
Kumar welcomed as many as 650 people into the BJP at the Secunderabad railway station. “They would be sent to different mandals in the state and would campaign for the party at all the polling booths,” he said.
Talking about the alleged threat to the life of BJP legislator and former minister Eatala Rajender, Kumar demanded an immediate investigation and arrests besides adequate security for the legislator.
He recalled that police had not arrested BRS workers who attacked him and other BJP leaders but booked functionaries of the Opposition party instead.
Kumar said the BJP national leadership was conducting meetings with state presidents and sangathan ministers in all states. “As part of that, the party is planning to hold a meeting of BJP presidents and sangathan ministers of southern states in Hyderabad on July 8. Though Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s tour has not yet been confirmed, he will definitely come to Telangana in July,” the BJP president added.
