Terming BRS’s release of candidates list months ahead of Telangana Assembly polls as a nervous move, the BJP on Tuesday claimed that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) is feeling rattled for the first time since state formation.
BJP leader Tarun Chugh said KCR’s statements about replacing many sitting MLAs facing corruption charges were lofty, but the list re-nominated most of the sitting MLAs, baffling people.
“Just a few days ago, while presiding over a meeting of BRS MLAs, he warned the MLAs that he had information that at least 20 MLAs are taking 30 per cent bribe in Dalith Bandhu scheme. When KCR stated that he had evidence of corruption, the list that KCR announced would have at least 20 new candidates, that did not happen, which means that KCR has endorsed the corruption of MLAs. The list that KCR announced yesterday is just an attempt to serve a heated old and rotten curry to the people, which people do not relish. Neither the wine nor the bottle is new,’’ Chugh said.
Union Minister and Telangana BJP chief G Kishan Reddy claimed that by deciding to contest from two seats, KCR has revealed his insecurity. “The first list of 115 candidates some of whom have been accused by the CM himself of being corrupt, and KCR’s decision to contest from two seats indicates the growing concerns in the BRS,’’ Reddy said.
On BJP’s plans, Reddy said the list will be announced at the right time but sources say the party lost momentum after Karnataka loss. Telangana BJP leaders said that they were waiting for the central leadership to chalk out poll campaign strategy and are hoping to discuss issues with Amit Shah, who is likely to arrive in Hyderabad on August 27. The BJP has also mellowed down a bit after replacing firebrand leader Bandi Sanjay Kumar as state BJP chief. Even Karimnagar MP Sanjay Kumar is yet to resume the final leg of his hugely popular Praja Sangram Yatra.
Chugh said that everything including padayatras, roadshows, public meetings, and outreach to each and every family in all the 119 Assembly constituencies is being planned in the run-up to the polls. “People are frustrated with the levels of corruption and are simmering with anger against the KCR government for his blatant corruption. We can understand the compulsions of KCR for he himself is corrupt and deserves Oscar for his innovation in fraudulent practices,’’ he said.
“BRS is not merely corrupt, but highly hypocritic. A few days ago, KCR’s daughter and Member of Legislative Council K Kavitha staged a dharna in New Delhi demanding 30 per cent reservation for women in Assemblies and Parliament. We expect BRS would follow what it preaches. However, in the list of 115 MLAs that KCR announced, there are just 4 women, which exposes the hypocrisy of the BRS party. How does Kavitha defend this blatant injustice for the cause of women in her own party?” he said.
Chugh said that BRS’s first list also indcated KCR’s opportunism. “In the Munugodu by-election, he made friendship with CPI and CPM as both the parties have some presence in the constituency and declared that they would be together henceforth. Six months after the Munugodu elections, KCR has dumped them. This is the typical KCR’s way. KCR uses people for his benefit and dumps them once the job is done. He had done during the separate Telangana Movement. The students, and government employees were used for the cause, but once Telangana was formed they were betrayed. The people of Telangana are aware of this hypocrisy, opportunism of KCR and they are ready with their ballot to throw BRS into Bay of Bengal,” he said, referring to KCR’s remark on asking people to dump Telangana opposition parties in the Bay of Bengal.
