Goa govt withdraws Bhumiputra Bill

As Cabral moved the motion to withdraw the Bill in the House, the Opposition MLAs taunted the government, questioning the reason for its withdrawal.

The Goa Government on Thursday withdrew The Goa Bhumiputra Adhikarini Bill 2021, after over two years the contentious bill was passed in the House.

On Thursday, the last day of the monsoon session of the Goa Assembly, the Minister for Law and Judiciary, Nilesh Cabral, moved a motion under Rule 166 to withdraw the Bill.

As Cabral moved the motion to withdraw the Bill in the House, the Opposition MLAs taunted the government, questioning the reason for its withdrawal.

The controversial Bill, which was tabled in the Goa Assembly at 3.30 am on July 30, 2021, and passed without a discussion, had kicked up a political storm in the state and drawn criticism.
