In Goa, ‘drunk’ airport worker makes hoax bomb call, arrested

A 22-year-old labourer was arrested for allegedly making a hoax call about a bomb threat at an airport in Goa on Saturday, said the police.

Kundar Kumar, a native of Bihar, has been working as a helper at the Manohar International Airport in Mopa and confessed that he made the hoax call in an inebriated condition, the police added.

According to the police, a call was received at the police control room at 4.45 pm and the caller informed them that a bomb blast may occur at an airport in Goa.

Nidhin Valsan, SP North Goa, said, “The caller did not specify which among the two airports or any specific location. Immediately, the Goa police, in coordination with the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), undertook all the security measures at both the airports and conducted a thorough inspection.”

The bomb disposal squad, anti-terrorism squad, dog squad and other departments of the Goa police were called in at the Dabolim and Manohar airports. After the inspection, the threat was found to be a hoax, said police.

Meanwhile, a team from the Mopa police station traced the accused and took him into custody. The police conducted a medical test and booked him under sections 505(1)(b) (offence against State or against public tranquility) 506 (ii) (criminal intimidation) and 507 (criminal intimidation by anonymous communication) of the Indian Penal Code.
