Rajya Sabha MP from Gujarat and Congress spokesperson Shaktisinh Gohil has raised several questions on the arrest of Kiran Patel, the man from Ahmedabad who has been charged with cheating, forgery, impersonation and allied charges for visiting areas out of bounds for civilians in Jammu and Kashmir.

The Jammu and Kashmir Police arrested Patel earlier this month after he was caught posing as an official of the prime minister’s office.

Gohil asked why the three other people allegedly accompanying Patel at a hotel in Kashmir were not booked. He also alleged that one of the three is the son of an official working in the Gujarat chief minister’s office.

Addressing a press conference in New Delhi Wednesday, Gohil said, “Why is there an FIR only against Kiran Patel? There were three more persons – Amit Hitesh Pandya, Jay Sitapara and Trilok Singh – with him.”

Gohil alleged that Amit Pandya is the son of Hitesh Pandya, who used to work for a private publication in Rajkot and has connections with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).

“When (Narendra) Modi ji became the Gujarat chief minister, he gave Pandya a post in the CMO. He (Pandya) was working in the CM’s bungalow with a salary and is doing it even now. His son is Amit Pandya,” Gohil said.

“How was he there with (Patel)? Jay Sitapara, too, has similar connections. And the third person is Trilok Singh from Rajasthan. Why are these three names missing from the FIR despite being in the same hotel as him (Patel)?” Gohil asked.

Gohil also questioned the nature of the charges against Patel and added that sedition charges should have been slapped in the case.

“If someone has reached sensitive areas of Jammu and Kashmir fraudulently with Z+ security, will you register a case of cheating against him or sedition?” Gohil asked.

Gohil alleged that only slapping cheating charges in the case was playing with national security.

Gohil showed pictures of Kiran Patel and his family with top BJP leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Amit Shah and J P Nadda.
