The CBI on Thursday arrested a woman sub-inspector and her son in a bribery case. Officials said the woman,who was posted at the Mandawali police station in East Delhi,had sought a bribe of Rs 50,000 from the complainant whose relatives case she was investigating.
A CBI spokesperson said,The sub-inspector was investigating a rape case in which the complainants relative was the accused. She initially demanded Rs 10,000 from the accused,assuring him that she would make sure that he wasnt arrested and that she would weaken the case. She sent her son to collect the bribe amount. Later,she demanded an additional Rs 40,000 from the complainant saying that there were others at the police station who had to be taken care of.
The complainant then approached the CBI who laid a trap to arrest the duo.
The sub-inspectors son was caught red-handed while receiving the bribe of Rs 40,000 from the complainant. Later, we arrested the woman officer, said the spokesperson.
The two were produced before the Special Judge for CBI cases on Friday and have been remanded in judicial custody till June 15.
