A 35-year-old woman and two of her children were found hanging from a railing on the terrace of their home in Greater Noida West’s Haibatpur village Thursday morning, said police.

Police suspect the woman hanged the children first before committing suicide.

“We were alerted by the hospital where the three were admitted,” said Assistant Commissioner of Police, Central Noida, Diksha Singh.

“We have not found any suicide note at the spot and there has been no complaint from the woman’s family. Once we receive a written complaint from her relatives, we will initiate action. For now, we have sent the bodies for post-mortem examination. Prima facie, it appears she hanged herself and her two children,” said the ACP.

Singh said the woman had been married for nearly 12 years.

Police said her six-year-old daughter was found hanging from a dupatta and she and her son were found hanging from another dupatta.

“The three were taken to a hospital around 10.45 am by family members, where they were declared dead on arrival,” said Shakti Mohan Avasthy, DCP Central Noida.

Police said it appears that the woman took the step following an argument with her husband.

“The woman’s sister-in-law had visited their house and her husband asked her to cook something. It appears the woman and her husband argued over her not cooking pasta; he also allegedly slapped her. Prima facie it looks like she took the step because of the argument. He also scolded the children for some reason, to which she objected,” said an officer privy to the probe.

Police said the initial investigation shows that the woman then went to the terrace and her two younger children followed her.

Her elder daughter, aged 10, was inside the house at the time.
