Sahil Kataria, who allegedly punched an IndiGo Airlines pilot after the flight he was on was purportedly delayed for 13 hours due to fog, was heading to Goa with his wife for their honeymoon.
The 35-year-old runs a stationery and toy shop in South Delhi’s Amar Colony. He lives with his family in East of Kailash. After a video surfaced of the incident, Kataria was arrested and later released on bail by the Delhi Police after a notice was served to him under Section 41 of CrPC.
Senior police officers aware of the matter told The Indian Express, “He had recently got married and was going on a vacation with his wife on Sunday… she was also deboarded from the airplane by CISF and aircraft officers at Delhi Airport after the incident.”
“He said he was frustrated over the delay and the irresponsible behaviour of cabin crew members which made him lose his calm and assault the pilot,” said an officer.
In a video after the incident, Kataria can be seen apologising. “He and his wife apologised after the incident to the staff and before police… an FIR has already been lodged and the case will be taken to court,” added the officer.
The FIR was filed on a complaint by the co-pilot.
