Watch Video: Trilokpuri erupts again, police deployed

Police said one version is that a heated argument over a parking issue led to the clashes.

Clashes broke out between residents of Blocks 26 and 27 in East Delhi’s Trilokpuri area on Saturday evening. This is the same area which witnessed communal violence last year.

Police said one version is that a heated argument over a parking issue led to the clashes. There was stone-pelting and residents called in police.

JCP (Eastern range) Sanjay Beniwal told Newsline, “There was an altercation between two group of boys which led to stone-pelting. The situation was controlled after the prompt action of local police.” According to police, the boys from the two blocks had a heated argument over a parking issue and then assaulted each other.

“Other residents also joined them. When they started hurling stones, some residents alerted the police control room,” the officer added.

After receiving the PCR call, beat constables along with other personnel immediately reached the spot. But police said they were also attacked by local residents.

“They began hurling stones at the police team as well. A wireless message was sent to all police stations of East Delhi, asking for additional forces and an anti-riot security unit,” the officer said.

One of the residents, however, had a different version of how the clash began. “It started from Block 26.  There were some who were drunk and they got into a scuffle with another group,” the resident said. “People then picked up empty bottles from the garbage dump and began hurling them in the direction of Block 27. This led to stone-pelting,” the resident said.
