Two held for stealing antique idols

Two persons on Friday were arrested for alleged theft of antique idols of Lord Krishna and Radha worth crores of rupees. The arrested have been identified as Shaboor Ahmed and Firoz Khan.

Two persons on Friday were arrested for alleged theft of antique idols of Lord Krishna and Radha worth crores of rupees. The arrested have been identified as Shaboor Ahmed (34) and Firoz Khan (30).

Vivek Kishore,DCP (Central) said,“Acting on a tip-off,we apprehended the two around 5 pm from Urdu Bazaar,Jagat Cinema Chowk. The idols have been inspected by the Archaeological Survey of India. The two idols weigh around 4.6 kg each,are made of brass,and belong to the 18th Century.”

Police said the two were looking for a buyer,and stood a chance to get a 5 per cent commission on the sale of the antiques. A decoy buyer was used to nab the suspects.

Investigations are on to find out from where the idols were stolen and who was directing the duo in these operations.

An FIR has been registered at the Jama Masjid police station,under provisions of the Antiques and Art Treasures Act,1972.
