Three in lead at chess tournament

Grandmaster Marat Dzhumaev and International Master Nikoly Tolstikh won their respective round 8 matches to move into joint lead with Iran’s Maghami Ehsan Ghaem at the Parsvnath International Open Chess Tournament on Tuesday.

The trio have seven points each lead a chasing pack of 10 players — including India’s Lalith Babu,Saptarshi Roy,Saptarshi Roy Chowdhruy,Arghyadip Das and Deep Sengupta — by half a point.

Playing with white pieces,Uzbek Grandmaster Dzhumaev outwitted International Master Oliver Dimakiling of Philippines in 32 moves while Russian Tolstikh continued his fine run to beat another Filipino,International Master Richad Bitoon,in 44 moves. Meanwhile,overnight sole leader Maghami played another safe game and signed another fourteen move truce against Lenic Luka of Slovenia.

Among Indians,Lalith held Russian Grandmaster Maxim Turov,while both Saptarshi Roy and Saptarshi Roy Chowdhury registered victories,beating Uzbek Grandmaster Saidali Iuldachev and Indian Grandmaster RR Laxman,respectively. Arghyadip also beat over Grandmaster Rinat Jumabayev of Kazakhstan while Deep Sengupta won against local hope International Master Tania Sachdev.
